The process of transforming your body goes hand in hand with transforming your mind. Insecurity is the biggest obstacle when interacting with that person you like at the gym, and the best way to combat insecurity is to have clarity about your real progress.
We are often our own worst critics. We look in the mirror every day and don't notice the changes we are making. Measuring your Body Mass Index (BMI) objectively gives you a starting point and helps you set realistic goals.
Below, use our free BMI calculator. It's a vital step to building that unbreakable confidence that will make you shine in the Gymlan community.
Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator
Enter your weight and height. BMI is a general indicator used worldwide to assess what weight range you are in. Remember that if you have a large amount of muscle mass, the BMI can be skewed (read more below to understand this).

Detailed Metrics
Ideal Weight Range: 0 kg - 0 kg
Body Fat % (Estimated): 0%
*Body fat % is estimated using the Deurenberg formula. Results may vary based on your actual muscle mass. The Problem with BMI for Athletes (and how it affects you)
If your calculator above returned "Overweight", don't panic yet. The big flaw with the classic Body Mass Index is that it doesn't distinguish between fat and muscle. If you are a regular weightlifter, your muscle density will increase your total weight on the scale. A professional bodybuilder might have a BMI that classifies him as "Obese", when in reality he has 6% body fat.
For those who train strength seriously, measuring with tape (waist, neck, arms) or using calipers is a much more faithful metric of their transformation.
Self-Esteem as a Dating Tool
Suppose you are on your way to your goals, losing weight or gaining mass. The frequent question is: "Should I wait until I have the perfect body to start using Gymlan and looking for a partner?"
The resounding answer is NO.
1. Everyone Respects the Process
The fitness community values effort and discipline much more than the finish line. Meeting someone while both are in their own "Glow Up" process generates extremely strong and lasting bonds, as they become each other's support system.
2. Posture and Energy
Actively working on yourself improves your posture, makes you smile more, reduces stress (thanks to regulated cortisol), and gives you an "energy" that others perceive. That magnetic vibe is what really attracts a Gym Partner, not the numbers on a scale.
Take the Next Step
You've calculated your calories, you know your 1RM, and now you are clear about your BMI and how mindset affects your results. You've done the introspection work.
Now is the time to apply that newfound confidence in the real world. Let go of the fear of rejection and surround yourself with people who celebrate that you've lost (or gained) 2 kilos this month.
